This week I started looking at to stats and how I compare.
They say that anywhere from 60% to 80% of college students entering college will change their major. I got that one...three times over.
However, they also say something like 15% to 30% of students don't return after their freshman year and more then half never graduate. Well I feel too close now to not graduate with one year left but you never know what will happen.
So as I thought about these stats, it occured to me...who cares! Some math geek out there decided that they had to compile all the people who don't succeed and give them a number to live by. Well, I say, screw the numbers! College isn't for everyone!
There are just some people out there who are not meant to be in college. Not because they aren't smart enough or anything like that; they just aren't ready or have the desire to go to college. It isn't like every single job out there requires that you have a college degree. There are plenty of jobs that you can go and get straight out of high school. Those occupations sometimes lead to being paid more then someone with a college degree. Just think, by the time we get out of school, you will have been at your job for four years and probably have recieved a raise already. There also is tech school, which some look down upon. If you know what you want to do and you can get it done in a year or two, crap, save your money and go for it! Four year colleges aren't the only good school. Tech schools are just as good as some four year universities.
I guess my point to this whole post is that you shouldn't feel pressured to go to college. Society today places such a high value on that little college diploma that doesn't need to be there. If you just don't want to leave home or your not ready, don't go and become a statistic. However to contradict that, I also think that you should leave home at some point to find out who you really are and what you truly want to do in life. Just don't do something because you were told it is "What you're suppose to do" or "the next step." Do what your heart says and you'll be happy.
